The only supplement proven to reduce chemotherapy side effects

Chemotherapy can be a harrowing experience, and if you are reading this for yourself or on behalf of a loved one we wish you all the best with the treatment.

As you may be discovering, fatigue is the most common side-effect of chemotherapy and for many it can be severe, often continuing for years after the treatment is finished.

Most doctors believe this fatigue is untreatable, and patients are often told they simply have to give it time. But there is, in fact, a dietary supplement that since 1999 has been providing relief for thousands of patients in some of best oncology clinics in the US.

Propax is the only supplement proven by research and by years of clinical experience to reduce fatigue for the great majority of chemotherapy patients.

And Propax can reduce many other side effects of chemotherapy, including nausea, impaired taste, diarrhea, constipation, raw mouth and insomnia.

Propax can also help with many side effects of radiotherapy.

What is Propax?

Propax is a comprehensive nutritional supplement providing a complete daily supply of 88 vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and probiotics. All doses are moderate and safe for chemotherapy patients.

The distinctive feature of Propax is the innovative nutraceutical NT Factor, specifically designed to enhance cellular functioning, including energy production. By increasing their bioavailability, NT Factor works synergistically with the other nutrients to significantly enhance their benefits.

How does Propax work to reduce fatigue & other side effects?

While the agents used in chemotherapy are targeted on fast-dividing cells, they can cause collateral damage to a wide range of healthy cells. To combat this challenge, your cells need to be functioning at their best.

Over time, our cells suffer a gradual accumulation of damage from oxidative attack, which degrades cell function (that's why many people take anti-oxidants). Plus the stresses of illness, and many chemotherapy drugs, cause additional oxidative damage.

One of the most serious effects of oxidation is damage to the delicate lipids that form the cell membranes. These lipids play a vital role in healthy cell functioning. The unique phosphoglycolipids in NT Factor are proven to replace damaged cellular lipids with vital, healthy lipids, restoring function to partially oxidised membranes.

This remarkable property of NT Factor helps our cells to function better:

  • Our mitochondria (the "powerhouses" of the cell) produce more energy
  • The cell's ability to absorb nutrition and hydration is increased: particularly the nutrients bound in with the NT Factor in the Propax tablets
  • As a result of improved energy and nutrition, immune function, nerve function and brain function are enhanced, along with all the cellular functions of the body.

Researchers at the University of California and The Institute for Molecular Medicine have named this new approach to wellbeing "Lipid Replacement Therapy" or "Molecular Replacement".

By supporting the functioning of your cells in this fundamental way, digestion, liver function and other vital processes are strengthened, and your body becomes better equipped to respond to the challenges of chemotherapy.

Published clinical trial finds that Propax reduces side-effects

The proof that Propax can improve quality of life for chemotherapy patients is strong: a peer-reviewed clinical trial, plus a decade of clinical experience in a wide range of reputed cancer clinics.

In a twelve-week double-blinded, cross-over, placebo controlled, randomised trial on cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, an average of 64% of the patients using Propax reported significant reductions in chemotherapy-induced side effects.

A farther 29% experienced no overall worsening of chemotherapy side-effects that would normally worsen progressively during treatment.

A simultaneous open-label trial produced similar results.

See research paper

So 93% of patients in the trial experienced benefits (ranging from modest to dramatic) for their quality of life while undergoing chemotherapy.

Enhanced nutritional status improves treatment outcomes

It is well understood that maintaining nutritional status and lean body mass helps improve the outcome of cancer therapy.

Propax supports nutritional status directly through comprehensive, bioavailable supplementation.

It also supports nutritional status indirectly: by reducing nausea, Propax can help restore a patient's appetite.

Propax may reduce serious side effects that can delay treatment

Clinical experience suggests that Propax can reduce the frequency of serious chemotherapy side effects such as myelosuppression (depression of bone marrow activity) which can involve dose reductions or suspension of treatment.

Here, for example, is the result of an informal clinical trial of Propax by Dr Rudy A. Segna, MD, FACOG, an oncologist in private practice in New York and Assistant Professor at the Mount Sinai Medical Center:

"All 8 patients treated nutritionally during the full 6 months of chemotherapy treatment responded positively. There were no treatment delays or dose reductions required by the patients for chemotherapy. This is an interesting result, as delays in treatment or dose reductions of therapy are very common in the treatment of this type of cancer [ovarian], mostly due to myelosuppression. ... Looking at 8 consecutive patients where none of the 8 had a negative sequela is interesting and quite frankly, I have not experienced this level of results during the past 10 years."

Testimonials from experienced clinicians & pharmacists

I have seen many products that claim to increase energy, but few if any, would I endorse. As a practitioner, I require clinical proof for the efficacy of any supplements I consider for my patients and I must be assured that they are both safe and offer measurable results. NT Factor meets both those tests.

Dr. Tony Jimenez, MD, Director, Hope for Cancer Clinic, in the book "Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia & Lyme Disease"

What we found is: if you give Propax good things happen to patients under chemotherapy. ... There are a lot of anecdotes about any product's effectiveness or lack of effectiveness, but what we where able to do was evaluate Propax with regard to potential clinical benefit in a rigorous, formal, classical clinical study collaborating with other oncologists in a structured way. And the results were statistically significant in favour of reducing fatigue while on chemotherapy with Propax.

Jerome B. Block MD, Professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine and former Chief, Division of Medical Oncology, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center:

We found that with Propax those symptoms - nausea fatigue loss of appetite, definitely improved. Patients reported higher quality of life even with chemo.

Bernard Wollschlager MD, Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Miami School of Medicine

Preliminary results for these 8 patients have been positive, especially with improvements in their energy levels and a reduction in the fatigue normally associated with chemotherapy treatments. During the treatment period of these patients, I saw a general improvement in their overall physical well being. All 8 patients experienced fewer side effects associated with their chemotherapy compared to other patients undergoing similar chemotherapy, but not on a nutritional supplement.

Dr Rudy A. Segna, MD, FACOG, an oncologist in private practice in New York and Assistant Professor, Mount Sinai Medical Center

This is so exciting because we actually now have a nutrient [NT Factor] that possesses this capacity to help restore the health of the cell membranes, backed up by scientific peer-reviewed research and clinical trials that are double blinded and crossed over. And I can say in nearly five years of using this product [Propax] the beauty in my patients is coming not only from their general cosmetic appearance but they look more energetic and they feel more energetic - because the science behind Propax documents that energy production is enhanced with this nutrient.

Dr Rita Ellithorpe MD, is medical director of the Tustin Longevity Center, California, guest faculty member of Capitol University and a graduate of The Chicago Medical School. She holds a second doctorate focusing on integrative health at the cellular level.

Without NT Factor, Propax would simply be a good multivitamin; with it, however, Propax is perhaps the best nutritional solution available for fatigue.

My pharmacy practice focuses on chemotherapy medications and for years, I would watch helplessly while many of my patients suffered the effects of fatigue and other problems with their quality of life. It has been through the use of Propax that I have been able to help them to take back their energy and stamina, in order to feel better while taking the medication, as well as afterward, when they need all their energy to recover.

What if I just can't afford the cost of Propax?

Propax Plus Kit - the economical way to reduce fatigue and other side effects of cancer therapy As a comprehensive supplement, a month's supply of Propax is a significant outlay (though the daily cost is no greater than a decent lunchtime sandwich).

If the full Propax protocol is beyond your means, the Propax Plus Kit is a more economical option. By taking one pack of Propax in the morning, and topping up with the NT Factor in Healthy Aging during the day, you can enjoy most of the benefits at a lower cost.

Your lowest cost option is Healthy Aging on its own. This provides NT Factor without the nutrient complex in Propax. If you take Healthy Aging with a dietary supplementation program approved by your medical team, you should experience many of the benefits of Propax. But not all, as the nutrients would not be bound in with the NT Factor, which helps make them more bioavailable.

Research evidence for NT Factor

Clinical trials on NT Factor and fatigue

The remarkable properties of NT Factor have attracted the attention of renowned medical biologist Dr Garth Nicolson. Dr Nicolson is the author of over 550 scientific and medical publications, and his 1972 paper on the structure of lipids in cell membranes holds the record as the most cited paper in all fields of science. Formerly a professor at the University of Texas Cancer Center, ranked #1 in the US, he is the recipient of prestigious awards from the Royal Society of Medicine, the US National Cancer Institute and others. Here is his brief Bio and his (40 page!) full CV.

Dr Nicolson has organized a number of studies into NT Factor. He recommends its use for a wide range of fatigue conditions and to help counter the effects of aging. (Dr Nicolson has no financial interest in NT Factor).

Will Propax interfere with my medical treatments?

Many doctors and patients have the impression that dietary supplements can have a negative impact on chemotherapy. With moderately dosed supplements such as Propax this is not supported by the scientific literature.

The manufacturers of Propax have supported a published literature review to address this issue, led by Dr Jerome B. Block, Professor of Medicine, UCLA School of Medicine and former Chief, Division of Medical Oncology, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (download review).

To quote the review conclusion:

"Hypotheses that antioxidants' inhibition of free-radical activity may negate cytotoxic properties of some cancer therapies have been dependent on naive and inaccurate assumptions. The available data suggest a rational basis for the continued use of selected antioxidant agents as therapeutic adjuncts in cancer therapy."

Dr Rudy A. Segna, MD, FACOG, an oncologist in private practice in New York and Assistant Professor at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, concurs:

"I have not read any published data from clinical studies indicating that this type of nutraceutical therapy is unsafe or not in the best interest of the patient. In reference to the use of the specific nutraceutical product Propax that we looked at in our practice, it appears to be safe. We had Propax analyzed by several third and fourth party pharmacists. There's nothing in it that could be construed to be detrimental to the patient's welfare. In my opinion, nutraceutical products that reduce fatigue and address other 'quality of life issues' that impact patients during chemotherapy should be considered an option available to oncologists when they are treating their patients."

Finally, here is the opinion of Dr Rita Ellithorpe MD, medical director of the Tustin Longevity Center, California, and guest faculty member of Capitol University. Dr Ellithorpe is the co-author of a published paper on Propax and has considerable clinical experience with the product:

"I reassure my patients ... that Propax is not going going to conflict with the purpose of their Radiotherapist or Chemotherapist - Propax really has no contraindication with any other medication that they may be taking."

Nevertheless, it is prudent to skip nutritional supplements on the days of chemotherapy treatments if these treatments depend on stimulating free radical activity.

Propax does not contain any single nutrient or combination of nutrients in an amount that would interfere with treatments. Nutrients that support the type of rapidly dividing cell that chemotherapy targets (such as vitamin C and folic acid) are held to an absolute minimum.

The manufacturers have produced a monograph providing detailed information on the safety and efficacy of the individual ingredients contained in Propax when used as a nutritional adjunct to cancer therapy.

Over a decade of clinical experience confirms that patients can enjoy the quality of life benefits of Propax without any risk to treatment outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any known side effects to Propax?

There have been reports of gastrointestinal upset and diarrhea in a small number of chemotherapy patients. In most cases, this can be prevented by increasing the dose gradually, as recommended below.

How long till I start to experience the benefits?

Increased energy and relief from fatigue can begin in as little as 3 days. However, most people begin to experience significant differences over the course of 10-28 days. The benefits are cumulative and depend on regular use.

What is the recommended dosage?

The recommended dosages are:

During the period of treatment 3 multi-packets a day
Severe fatigue after treatment 3 multi-packets a day
Moderate fatigue after treatment 2 multi-packets a day
Mild fatigue after treatment 1 multi-packet a day

Each multi-pack consists of 4 tablets and 1 soft gel capsule containing EPA and DHA from fish oil.

Ideally, the 4 tablets should be taken around one hour before food, and the soft gel capsule taken with food. This is because the oils in the gel capsule can somewhat inhibit the takeup of the phosphoglycolipids in the NT Factor. But if dose scheduling is prohibitive the soft gel capsule may be taken with the tablets. If a soft gel capsule dose is missed it may be doubled up later in the day.

It is recommended that patients take their last packet before 5pm, or the increased energy levels that result may interfere with sleep.

How do I start taking Propax?

To minimise the risk of gastrointestinal upset in the initial stages while your body is adjusting, if your target dosage is more than one packet per day, you should build up your dosage gradually.

If your digestion is delicate or compromised: if your target dose is more than 1 packet per day, begin with 1 per day for 5 days, before moving up to 2 packs. If your target is 3 packets, wait a farther 5 days before moving up to the third pack.

If your digestion is robust: if your target dose is more than 1 packet per day, you can start with 2 packs. If your target is 3 packets, remain on 2 packs for 5-7 days before moving up to the third pack.
